2017 Wisconsin Park & Recreation Association Conference Logo

Having the opportunity to design branding for an Annual Conference is something I cherish. Between typesetting a newsletter and creating master pages for a new membership brochure, I often look forward to creating a logo in which all future design pieces will be influenced by.

The design brief was short, and came with lovely examples of clipart to "help" my composition. I will spare you the details, but any direction from the client is always appreciated. Back to the brief.  The annual conference is a gathering place for members to exchange ideas, theories and new products among the association. The theme followed suit with a metaphor for this process, "Building Bridges: Creating Connections."

I knew I wanted to make this a simple logo but also bring a modern feel (something they have rarely seen in the past). I started with a couple elements, an icon of a bridge (simple) and a modern color scheme. Having always appreciated the look of circular branding due to it's contemporary look, my path was clear.

A couple sketches for guidance.

After some help from my pencil, I designed this.

I enjoyed creating this logo and after some troubleshooting was able to email the client. Shortly after, I received client feedback. They wanted to include the design within an outline of the state of Wisconsin because this helped to create a stronger connection between the association and the state. While this suggestion was not my concept, I can always appreciate a good idea, no matter who it comes from. Here is the final concept.
