Back to Watercolors

It has been 10 years since I took a Winterim class in watercolors. Over the course of 3 weeks, I had went from knowing nothing about how to use water colors to being exposed to every technique under the sun. It was a little overwhelming, but I got through it. I haven't really touched them since. I have been doing a lot of sketching over the past 3 months, and been colorizing my sketches with sharpie fine point pens. Sharpies are wonderful tools that you can do many things with, but deep, dynamic color is not one of them.

Then I remembered my time with watercolors, A DECADE ago. I thought, what risk would I be taking by giving it a try? If I didn't like them, they were cheap and I can move on. If they work out, my work will have much more color, dimension and style (and maybe I can try to find my style as well).

Anyways, below are a couple experiments/studies I have done over the past couple weeks. I am not sure where I am going, but starting out with animals made sense to me since my wife wants some fun artwork to hang in our nursery. :)

Always wanted to meet a buffalo. Maybe someday I will see one in the wild.

Finished up. Looks like someone punched hammy in the eye, but I think I am getting better!
